Perseid Meteor Shower Party was a huge Success!
A big thank you to all who participated in the Perseid Meteor Shower Party at the Integratron; it was a huge success! We raised more than $8,000 while in the company of fellow dark sky lovers.
We could not have done it without all who volunteered - we thank each and every one of you. A big thank you to the Integratron for donating the space for this event, Tom O’Key and the team of California Desert Video Astronomers for their live projections and Pam Tripp of Joshua Tree National Park for her "dark sky" presentation.
Special thanks to the donors of our raffle prizes: Grooveegear.com, Joshua Tree Music Festival, Oasis Grace, Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace, and Pioneertown Lodge & Stables.
Together we made this event a success and together we will continue to save land.
Part of what we do here at the Land Trust involves protecting our desert night skies. By conserving land, we are helping in the fight of the growing environmental problem of light pollution. According to the BBC, 99% of the continental United States (and two thirds of the world's population) never see a dark, starry sky because of man made lights. The Mojave Desert is one of the last places left in the United States where you can still see the Milky Way with the naked eye.
A portion of the funds raised at this wonderful event will go towards restoring our heritage of star-filled skies. We thank you again for your support in this important effort!
