A big thank you to all that participated in the Perseid Meteor Shower Party at the Integratron; it was a huge success! We raised more than $8,000 while in the company of fellow dark sky lovers.

We could not have done it without all who volunteered- we thank each and every one of you. A big thank you to the Integratron for donating the space for this event, Tom O-Key of California Desert Video Astronomers for their live projections and Pam Tripp of Joshua Tree National Park Service for their "dark sky" presentation.

Part of what we are doing here at the Land Trust involves protecting our desert night skies. By conserving land, we are helping in the fight of a growing environmental problem of light pollution. According to the BBC, 99% of the continental United States (and two thirds of the world's population) never see a dark starry sky because of man made lights. The Mojave Desert is one of the last places left in the United States where you can still see the Milky Way with the naked eye. Click here for more info on this event.
