BIOS

Jacob Colella was born and raised in Joshua Tree, CA. Spending most of his days exploring the park and its surrounding areas, Jacob considers this area his playground. As a native, he has learned the real history of Joshua Tree, the native plants and animals and the changes that have taken place here. As an avid rock climber and guide, he is in great physical shape and enjoys the outdoors.

Pat Flanagan is a native Californian born with DNA coded for creosote and aridity. Pat has a bachelor’s degree in Biology and has used it to involve a wide variety of audiences in desert ecosystems. Currently, she is the Resource Advocate for the Mojave Desert Land Trust focusing her attention on land use issues throughout the Mojave Desert, as well as introducing people to special places the Trust is acquiring – like the Quail Mountain Project in south Joshua Tree. The other half of her time she writes classroom and field trip curriculum for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students in the Imperial Valley. This work links science with the human story through adventures exploring the geology, natural history, and human escapades along the San Andreas Fault.

Rich and Vera Pringle are retired corporate and federal executives, respectively, and fulltime RV'ers for 14 years who summer in the Rocky Mountains and winter in the Coachella Valley/Palm Springs area. They lead hikes and build trails with hiking clubs in both locations. Their focus is on the hiking experience versus the destination, and they provide both factual (Vera) and fanciful (Rich) information on their interpretive hikes

Mark Wheeler, M.S., Education, has spent thirty years hiking and studying the mountain and desert landscapes of the west coast. Mr. Wheeler has worked extensively with wilderness-adventure programming groups such as Outward Bound, training both students and instructors in wilderness travel skills and group dynamics.
